These Coconut-free Toners from Humane Help Fight Acne
When you have a coconut allergy and unknowingly use skin care products that contain coconut, it often causes a rash on your face that looks like acne. It can be a real bummer. As you switch over to products without coconut, your skin may clear up but you can nonetheless suffer from normal acne. Still a bummer. That’s where Humane’s coconut-free toners step in.
Not only are Humane’s Clarifying Toners coconut-free, but they are formulated in a way that help you combat acne. These toners contain salicylic acid, which exfoliates your skin, ridding it of dead skin cells. Salicylic acid reaches deep into your pores to clear them out, which is ideal if you suffer from blackheads. It also can reduce redness and inflammation, evening out your skin tone. Just a reminder, when using salicylic acid, don’t skip your sunscreen as it increases sun sensitivity.
Humane sells the toners in two forms – in presoaked pads or in a bottle if you want to bring your own cotton ball.

Note: The ingredients list on Amazon includes “Cocamidopropyl Betaine” but it seems to be a misprint, because the ingredients list in the picture and on their website does not show it as being an ingredient.

Note: Humane does not recommend using their toners if you are allergic to aspirin.
Green tea extract is another acne-fighter in these toners. Thought to be the healthiest drink of the plant, you will now benefit from it soaking directly into your skin. Green tea is antioxidant and antimicrobial. It has been shown to be effective in keeping sebum, your natural face oil, from clogging your pores which could lead to an increase of bacteria growth. And just like the salicylic acid, the green tea extract decreases redness and inflammation in your skin. The element of green tea in these toners means your skin will feel soothed and moisturized.
Where does toner belong in your skin care routine? It is best applied after you have cleansed your face but before you apply your moisturizer. Even with a double cleanse, it’s amazing how you can still pick up traces of makeup or impurities during the toner step of your routine. Getting rid of those last traces of gunk helps prevent acne. Lastly, toner balances the pH of your skin – a key element of your skin’s protective barrier. Humane states that this toner will help your skin reach a range of 3.3 to 3.7 pH.
